The Blue Moon in Sagittarius - Once in a Blue Moon, the Archer aims straight at the truth.

The Astrology

A Blazing Beacon of Truth

This Blue Moon arrives at 9°56' Sagittarius on May 31st, 2026 — the second full moon of May and a genuinely rare lunation. A calendrical Blue Moon occurs when two full moons fall within a single calendar month; the last was the Scorpio full moon on May 1st. This makes the entire month of May an extraordinary arc of transformation: from the shadowy depths of Scorpio, we travel to the wide, fire-lit horizons of Sagittarius.

The full moon illuminates the Sagittarius–Gemini axis — the polarity between the quest for cosmic meaning and the collection of earthly information. The Moon in Sagittarius holds the big-picture philosophy; the Sun in Gemini gathers facts, data, and conversation. This is the eternal tension between what we believe and what we can prove, between the map and the territory.

"Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, governs faith, foreign horizons, higher education, and the search for ultimate truth. This full moon brings culmination to matters seeded around the New Moon in Sagittarius six months ago — in late November and early December 2025."

The Blue Moon amplification

Because this is a Blue Moon — occurring only once every two to three years — its energy carries an amplified resonance. Intentions released or set under this rare light are said to carry extra potency. The Blue Moon is also the last full moon of Spring 2026, closing a season before the Summer Solstice. There is a beautiful finality woven into this lunation: a completion, a threshold, a send-off from the Archer's bow.

The Energy

Fire, Freedom & the Fearless Truth

Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign — restless, honest, and always pointed toward the horizon. Its energy is that of the philosopher-adventurer: someone who has traveled far enough to know that no single map contains the entire world. Under this Blue Moon, the fire element lends a hot, urgent quality to our emotions and revelations.

Expect truths to arrive with uncomfortable clarity. Sagittarius cannot abide pretense. Whatever you have been glossing over, avoiding, or politely refusing to name — this moon will illuminate it. This isn't cruel; it is the kindness of the cosmos asking you to stop wasting your one wild life on comfortable illusions.

The collective themes of this lunation include:

Expansion vs. contraction — Where have you been playing small? What bigger life is beckoning?
Belief systems — Which of your philosophies still serve your growth, and which have calcified into dogma?
Freedom & adventure — Physical, intellectual, spiritual. Where do you need more space to roam?
Higher education & wisdom — What are you called to study, teach, or share with the world?
Faith & trust — In life, in yourself, in the unfolding. Can you leap even before you see the landing?

At its spiritual core, this Blue Moon asks a profound question: Can you hold your highest ideals while integrating the messy, complicated reality of actual life? This is not a moon for perfectionism. It is a moon for the beautiful, imperfect, glorious attempt.

Journal Prompts

Writing by Moonlight

Light a candle. Pour something warm. Set your phone aside. These prompts are designed to help you move beneath the surface — past the logical mind and into the honest, fiery knowing of your own inner Archer.

  1. What is the biggest truth about my life that I have been reluctant to say out loud — even to myself? What would shift if I finally named it?

  2. What beliefs have I been carrying that I inherited from others (family, culture, religion, society) rather than choosing for myself? Which of these still serve me, and which are ready to be released under this Blue Moon?

  3. If I truly believed that my biggest dreams were not only possible but meant for me — how differently would I be living my life right now? What would I stop doing? What would I start?

  4. Where in my life am I playing it safe when my soul is calling for an adventure? What is the smallest bold step I could take in the next two weeks?

  5. This Blue Moon closes the arc of a cycle that began with the Sagittarius New Moon in late November / December 2025. Looking back over those six months: what have I learned? What has grown? What is complete?

  6. What does freedom mean to me — truly, specifically, in my actual daily life? And where am I denying myself that freedom, even when the door is open?

  7. If the Archer of Sagittarius is always aiming at the horizon — what is my horizon right now? What am I moving toward, and does that destination still make my heart rise?

  8. Write a love letter to the version of yourself who dared to believe. Then write one to the version who is still afraid. What do they each need to hear tonight?

Full Moon Ritual

The Blue Moon Release Ceremony

This simple ceremony is designed to honor the rare energy of the Blue Moon and work intentionally with its themes of release, truth, and expansion. Perform any time from May 30th through June 1st while the moon appears full.

🕯️ Create your space

Find a place where you can see or feel the moon — a window, a porch, a garden. Light a candle (gold, purple, or blue are ideal for Sagittarius). Place any crystals, flowers, or sacred objects around you. Take three slow, intentional breaths.

📜 Write your release list

On a piece of paper, write: "Under this Blue Moon in Sagittarius, I release…" List all the beliefs, fears, limitations, stories, or patterns you are consciously choosing to let go of. Be specific and honest. Write until you feel complete.

🔥 Burn with intention

If it is safe to do so, burn your release list in a fireproof bowl, watching as the Sagittarius fire transforms your words into smoke and ash. If burning is not possible, tear the paper into small pieces and scatter them in running water or bury them in the earth.

⬆️ Set your Blue Moon intention

On a fresh piece of paper, write your bold, expansive intention — the one that feels almost too big. Begin with: "Under this rare Blue Moon, I open myself to…" This is your arrow aimed at the horizon. Fold it and keep it somewhere sacred until the next New Moon.

🌿 Close with gratitude

Place both hands on your heart. Thank the Moon, Jupiter, and your own courageous self for showing up. Speak aloud: "I am free to expand. I am brave enough to see the truth. I trust the journey." Extinguish your candle. Rest.
